What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Maintenance - Utilities position at City of Rosemount?
This position will remain open until filled, with applications being reviewed upon receipt.
Performs work inspecting, operating, and repairing the city water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater conveyance systems, locating utility lines, assisting contractors and the general public with utility inquires, and related work as apparent or assigned.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Works Supervisor.

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting.
Sensory Requirements
Work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.
Sensory Utilization
Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
Environmental Conditions
Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, working with explosives and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

- Installs, replaces, repairs, and maintains city water meters and readers; reads meters and collects data; records meter readings and delivers to appropriate resource.
- Performs utility line locates as needed; assists residents and contractors with locating, operating, and repairing water valves.
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs the city water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater conveyance systems, fire hydrants, gate valves, curb stop valves, well houses, and wastewater lift stations.
- Conducts snow removal seasonally; utilizes equipment and vehicles to remove snow from streets, sidewalks, and parking lots; lays salt and ice removal chemicals as needed.
- Operates light to heavy vehicles and equipment in the completion of job duties.
- Performs general upkeep and maintenance on utility buildings.
- Maintains and repairs assigned equipment and tools.
- Performs other work as required of the public works maintenance division to ensure support and task completion as necessary including parks, streets, and utilities.
- High School diploma or GED and less than one year of experience in work involving maintaining and repairing water utility systems
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) or ability to obtain one within six months of hire date.
- Prior experience with the operation and maintenance of snowplow equipment, streets, gravel roads, utilities, and park maintenance equipment both large and small.
- Successful completion of technical college program in Public Works.
- Minnesota Department of Health Class C Water Operator License.
- Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Class SC Collection System Operator License.
- Ability to obtain Minnesota Department of Health (DOH) Class D Water Operator license within one year of hire.
- Ability to obtain Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Class SD Collection System Operator license within one year of hire.
- Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for position
