LIFEGUARD-PART TIME

• Preventive enforcement of pool rules in and around the pool.
• Identifies and responds to emergency situations and administers care.
• Performs general maintenance in and around the pool.
• Performs chemical test on pools and reports this data to Pool Management.
• Responsible for collection of fees and promoting public relations with pool users.
• Attends in-service training as required by the Department.
• Incumbent must determine, enforce and prevent rule violations pertaining to the facility.
• Must ensure the safety of Aquatic patrons.
• Leads the Learn To Swim classes.
• May serve as a temporary manager on duty for Pool Rentals and Open Swim.
• Cleans/clears debris and refuse from City property regularly.
• Cleans restrooms on City property regularly.
• Must work special events as assigned.
• Required to report for work punctually, work all scheduled hours, and any required overtime as deemed necessary.  Must maintain a physical condition and standards necessary for the proper performance of duties, with or without accommodation.

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must possess current lifeguard training and CPR/FPR from American Red Cross.
• Some life guarding experience preferred, but not required.
• The incumbent must have effective oral communication skills and be a strong swimmer.

Knowledge skills and abilities

• Working knowledge of aquatic activities, life guarding, CPR and first aid.
• Knowledge of water rescue methods.
• Knowledge of swimming pool operations to include: sanitation, maintenance and safety.
• Must have the ability to courteously and firmly interact with pool patrons.
• Ability to consistently demonstrate endurance and rescue skills.
• Ability and skill in carrying out water rescues.
   

Physical Requirements:

• Tasks are essentially sedentary, with occasional walking, bending, light lifting, or other restricted physical activities.
• Tasks involve some physical effort, i.e., some standing and walking, or frequent light lifting (10-15 lbs.); or minimal dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs, or body in the operation of shop or office equipment; may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
• Tasks may involve frequent walking, standing; some lifting and carrying of moderate weight (100± lbs.); and/or the operation of vehicles, office, shop, or hand tools in which manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination are important ingredients of safe and/or productive operations.
   

Environmental Requirements:

• Some tasks are performed with or without exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g., dirt, cold, rain, fumes, heat, cold, or extreme weather conditions).
   

Sensory Requirements:

• Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination.
• Tasks require oral communications ability.
