WATER UTILITY LOCATE TECHNICIAN

Hourly Wage: $25.33
DEFINITION: Under general supervision performs work of routine difficulty in Locating all underground water utility including; Emergency and non-emergency J.U.L.I.E. requests, drafting maps, prepare drawings of water Utility maps, revising and edit water plat drawings, update, revise and maintain water utility maps, locate water mains, service lines, participate in leak locating program, and participates in snow and ice removal from city streets.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
1. Perform emergency and non-emergency JULIE locates for water and storm sewer utility.
2. Perform water leak locating.
3. Assists in water shutdowns.
4. Prepare, edit, and revise Water Utility maps.
5. Investigates leaks inside and outside structures, including service and main breaks.
6. Uses appropriate software to look up and record measurements of water services and valves and water main plats.
7. May assist Water distribution personnel when needed.
8. Safely operates assigned City vehicles.
9. Responsible for the daily maintenance of assigned City vehicles, including checking and maintaining fluid levels, checking vehicle safety features, and washing and cleaning interiors and exteriors.
10. Maintains tools and equipment in good working order
11. Participates in Snow and Ice removal operation.
12. Participates in 24 hours on call assignments.
13. Observes basic safety procedures.
14. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of equipment operation, the water distribution system, and its parts and components. Knowledge of Illinois driving laws. Must have the ability to maintain records, interpret instructions and be able to perform moderate to heavy physical labor.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED. Two years of experience in water distribution repairs and construction work including one-year operating trucks and other equipment. Considerable knowledge of ESRI, GIS software and related software programs or any equivalent combination of training and experience that ensures the ability to perform the job’s essential duties.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work involves frequent walking, standing, climbing, and driving; as well as lifting and carrying of moderate objects (some over 50 pounds). The majority of the work is conducted outside and may involve regular exposure to adverse conditions and exposure.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
Possession of a valid Class B Illinois Commercial Driver's License within six months of hire.
Ability to courteously work with the general public.
Effective June 1, 2018, all newly hired employees, including newly hired Department Heads, shall live within the municipal boundaries of City of Rockford within six (6) months of their completion of their introductory period.
Classified employees hired after January 1, 1984, may live anywhere in Winnebago County or anywhere within an area fifteen (15) miles from the Public Safety Building within six (6) months of their date of completion of probation. Employees hired prior to January 1, 1984, shall be subject to their conditions of employment in effect at that time.
