Mobile Recreation Specialist

This position is responsible for managing the City’s mobile recreation programs including Recreation on the Move, the associated Play Streets Roc Initiative, and other recreation focused community partnerships. Direct supervision is received from the Director of Programs and Park Stewardship. Work hours vary seasonally and may include evenings and weekends. Related work is performed as required. 

This is a Competitive Class position.  The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.

A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three.  (See  "http://www.cityofrochester.gov/article.aspx?id=8589935786" Provisional Appointment - FAQ's) If you are already a City employee and have permanent, competitive status in your current position and appointment to this title would result in a provisional appointment in another department, you will lose your previous permanent competitive rights.

• Manages the Rec On the Move program; 

• Coordinates a year round park activation and special events schedule;

• Hires and manages Part-Time/Seasonal staff, coordinates work schedules, approves time cards, liaisons with community partners, etc.; 

• Oversees Play Streets Roc initiative; 

• Meets with community groups; 

• Coordinates City of Rochester permit process; 

• Liaisons with City departments; 

• Organizes programs and stewards relationships with community groups focused on skateboarding, canoe/ kayaking, mountain biking, swimming and other related recreation programs; 

• Collaborates with Camps/Special Programs staff, Recreation Center teams, the RCSD and other community partners to activate the Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights (COBOR); 

• Coordinates community outreach and social media for all mobile recreation programs; 

• Represents the Department of Recreation and Human Services at various play related working groups including Healthi Kids Coalition, GRASA, etc.;

• Performs basic administrative tasks such as filling out permits/forms, tracking attendance, maintaining program records, managing program budgets, overseeing vehicle maintenance records, and other required administrative tasks as directed;

• Attends training sessions to remain current in recreation program methods and research, first aid, and other necessary skills.

High school diploma or Equivalent; PLUS: 

I. Associate’s degree in Recreation/Leisure Services, Physical Education, Human Services, Elementary or Secondary Education, or related field; PLUS one (1) year of full-time experience (or part time equivalent) conducting or instructing youth/adult recreation programs or services, coaching, staffing after school programs, leading physical fitness, working at a school age childcare program, etc.

OR

II. Two (2) years full-time experience (or part time equivalent) as described in Section I above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 
Possession of an American Red Cross first aid/CPR certification or equivalent at time of appointment.
New York State Class D Driver’s License at time of appointment. This licensure must be maintained throughout employment in this title.
Possession and maintenance of a Van Certification issued by the Department of Recreation and Human Services.

Salary : $44,898 - $57,550
