Statement of Duties
Skilled manual work in maintaining recreational facilities in a clean, safe, condition.
Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Facilities and Operations Supervisor. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Facilities and Operations Supervisor who oversees the opening, operating, and closing of seasonal department facilities, including the ice arena, outdoor pools and some parks.
Work is moderately complex, particularly in the operation of the ice resurfacing machine when ice surfaces must be cleaned within specified time constraints. Building and property maintenance is a significant component of the job, and the incumbent is required to ensure that the use of the facilities and properties are in conformance with applicable laws, regulations and departmental policies including the supervision of part-time personnel .. May be required to guide part-time employees regarding matters of departmental procedures.
Job Environment
Work is performed at various indoor and outdoor facilities, including the ice arena, therefore, has exposure to unpleasant working conditions related to outdoor and/or maintenance functions. Flexible work schedule allowing for occasional work outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends based on program season.
Operates heavy equipment, including the ice re-surfacer. Operates hand and power tools. as well as a computer and general office equipment.
Makes regular contact with user groups and patrons of the facilities, comprised of persons of all ages for the purpose of giving information, providing assistance and generally maintaining good order.
Errors could result in an adverse impact on the clients, confusion, and delay on the provision of services and could have legal and/or financial repercussions.
Essential Functions

- Assists with coordinating the opening, operating, and closing of seasonal department facilities, including the ice arena, outdoor spaces and outdoor pools.
- Trains staff on operating and maintenance practices of department facilities through education sessions and hands on coaching.
- Performs daily cleaning and maintenance routines of various recreation managed facilities to maintain a clean, safe, attractive condition.
- Provides presence at recreation facilities and properties to engage with and educate the community and to deter misuse of properties.
- Operates the ice-making machine for the purpose of preparing the skating surface for continuous usage.
- Implements daily routines and practices to ensure that recreation facilities are in compliance with applicable laws, industry safety standards/best practices and department/City policies.
- Inventories and purchases supplies related to property and building maintenance and operations.
- Provides support for program and event set up including specific equipment needs.
- Attends staff meetings and meetings with other agencies when required.
- Incumbent must bring any new or unusual conditions, situations or inappropriate usage of recreation facilities to the attention of the Facilities and Operations Supervisor.
- Performs other similar or related duties as required, or as the situation dictates.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license
- 2 years of experience in building and/or recreation facility maintenance work
Special Requirements:
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certified of ability to obtain certification.
- Certified Pool Operator or ability to obtain certification.

- Recreation facilities, including aquatics facilities, trails, ice making plants, ice resurfacing machine operation and maintenance, and building maintenance

- Be thorough and dependable and complete work in a timely and efficient manner
- Position requires the ability to operate computer keyboard and standard office equipment.

- Physical strength to move and push object up to 50lbs.
- Exposure to dangerous chemicals and poisonous gases.
- Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
