Job Summary
The City of Rochester's Public Works Department is seeking candidates for a regular part-time general laborer position in the Public Works Streets and Parks Division four-five days a week. This is not a seasonal position, but a year-round position, ideal for a candidate seeking a flexible schedule. This position is eligible for earned paid sick leave according to the Michigan Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA). Time off is permitted for vacation, or other reasons, especially around holidays.
Essential Functions Including, But Are Not Limited To
Part-time position performs semi-skilled manual work in public works construction and maintenance activities. Work is performed under the direction of the Street Maintenance Foreman or other supervisors. Duties will include but not limited to assisting with maintenance on City streets, bike paths, brush chipping, litter pick up, parkway restorations, sign maintenance, shop maintenance, leaf pick up, snow plowing and assisting other departments as directed. The hours for this position are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., up to 32 hours per week, four set days per week, Mon-Thursday, or Tuesday - Friday, not to exceed 1,560 per year.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age. High School diploma or GED, be able to follow verbal and written instructions, have a valid Michigan Driver’s License, able to use various hand tools, stand and walk for extended periods of time, lift on occasion 80 pounds, and work outside in summer and winter temperatures.
Selection
Candidate screening process may consist of an application review, skills testing, employability assessment, interviews, reference checks, and other verifications. Chosen candidates will be subject to a background and criminal history investigation, a qualifying pre-employment medical examination and drug screen. E.O.E.
