This is an exempt position.SUMMARYReviews building plans and proposed construction (new or existing) for compliance with legal standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Reviews building plans as part of the application and review process leading to the issuance of a construction permit for compliance with building and zoning code requirements and for application of safe construction design.
Gives information to builders, owners, contractors, residents and others regarding building regulations and plan reviews.
Answers questions from private citizens, contractors and builders, does basic plan checking to determine compliance with codes.
Testifies in court on building code related cases.
Makes reports and keeps records regarding plan reviews.
Provides training and seminars to design professionals, contractors and citizens on code related issues.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three or more years related experience and/or training in building inspection or plans review or equivalent combination of education and experience.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to prepare reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must possess and maintain the following certifications required by the Uniform Statewide Building Code and the City of Roanoke: Electrical Plans Examiner, Mechanical Plans Examiner, Plumbing Plans Examiner and Fire Plans Examiner.

Salary : $55,432 - $88,691
