The City of Roanoke is seeking an Account Clerk to perform work involving the preparation and maintenance of fiscal or related records. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to reconciling invoice quantities and charges with purchase orders, auditing paid invoices for correct coding and for reconciliation with voucher, and handling inquiries or complaints from the general public. The successful candidate will also perform computations and posts to statistical and other records applying knowledge of regulations, maintain office files, account records and a variety of other records, and maintain earning and deduction records. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) supplemented by courses in accounting, bookkeeping or related field; one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience are required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Reconciles invoice quantities and charges with purchase orders
Audits paid invoices for correct coding and for reconciliation with voucher
Handles inquiries or complaints from the general public
Performs computations and posts to statistical and other records applying knowledge of regulations
Maintains office files, account records and a variety of other records
Maintains earning and deduction records
Submits bills and accounts for revenue received to the Treasurer's office
Prepares a variety of financial and statistical records required by local and state agencies
Updates statistical records by entering data
Researches and verifies information for processing of vendor payments
Processes food stamp cards for mailing
Assists other staff with financial and statistical procedures and problems
Assists in training of new clerical staff
Assists taxpayers with preparation of state and local tax forms returns

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
