The City of Roanoke is seeking a Client Services Specialist to act as a service navigator, assisting clients seeking social services benefits in Virginia. The position greets and directs clients to appropriate self service areas, applications, forms and/or case workers. The successful candidate will answer routine procedures and policy inquiries; help determine appropriate programs of service according to need, maintain daily visitor log, and screens applications for public assistance through local, state and federal information systems. They will also be responsible for preparing, scanning, and quality checking of documents/images being converted to electronic/digital format. Additional job responsibilities include but are not limited to ensuring proper transferal and indexing of images; sorting and filing records; opening, sorting, and distributing mail; performing research and screening applicant activity in various computer systems; generating reports of statistical and fiscal data; and receiving and resolving complaints according to established policies. Proficiency in computer skills such as keyboarding and programs including Microsoft Office Suite; High School diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training in a clerical environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bilingual, Spanish/English speakers encouraged to apply.

Answers phones, provides information, and routes calls to appropriate staff or community resource
Serves as lobby greeter; greets and directs visitors to appropriate area
Serves as lobby navigator; assists visitors with on-line application system
Answers inquiries about routing procedures and policies; determines appropriate programs and services according to need
Maintains electronic log of incoming visitors to department
Sorts and files alphabetically, numerically, or by other established methods
Sets up and organizes files; purges files and other records in accordance with state retention schedules
Copies and distributes documents
Opens, sorts, date stamps, and distributes mail
Type's correspondence, memos, reports, and or forms from written source documents
Scans documents and performs quality assurance of images using document imaging system
Performs research and screens applicant activity in various computer systems
Logs statistical or fiscal data in a variant of formats that generates reports
Checks forms, records, reports, applications and other material for accuracy, completeness and conformity
Receives complaints and resolves them within the framework of established policies and procedures
Maintains stockroom inventory-orders supplies, restocks shelves, updates inventory records
Researches and assigns electronic transfer-ins from other localities
