The Position
THIS IS A PROMOTIONAL RECRUITMENT AND ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT CITY OF RIVERSIDE EMPLOYEES
The City of Riverside, Public Utilities Department (RPU) is accepting applications from current employees for the position of UTILITIES GENERATION PLANT MANAGER - CW to fill one (1) vacancy in the Generation Clear Water Division. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to twelve (12) months.
Under general direction, the Utilities Generation Plant Manager is to manage the overall administration, operation and maintenance of one or more power generating facilities. The incumbent is to directly supervise plant administrative and technical staff. The Utilities Generation Plant Manager is to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory requirements applicable to assigned generating station(s) and to perform related duties as assigned.
Work Performed
- Assist in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities.
- Oversee the organization, planning, scheduling, assignment, and supervision of management and nonmanagement subordinates in the construction, maintenance and repair of generation equipment, such as gas or steam turbine generators, heat recovery boilers, compressors, pumps and piping, cooling towers, zero liquid discharge systems, and other auxiliary equipment.
- Ensure safe and efficient start-up, shut-down, operation, and maintenance of generation facilities consistent with accepted industry practices and policies established by management.
- Maintain time and material records; schedule various phases of equipment installation and maintenance to ensure completion within established schedules.
- Provide management leadership and select, supervise, train and evaluate subordinates.
- Serve as Acting Utilities Generation Manager as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or other related field considered useful in utility generation plant management. Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Experience:
At least five years of supervisory experience related to administration, construction, operation, maintenance and repair of power generating facilities; including regulatory compliance, budgeting, safe work practices, vendor management, and engineering oversight.
Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
