What are the responsibilities and job description for the Street Cleaning Dump Truck Driver position at City of Richmond?
The City of Richmond Department of Public Works is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill an Equipment Operator, as a Street Cleaning Dump Truck Driver in the Street Cleaning division. The selected incumbent will be responsible for driving the dump truck during daily sweeping and towing operations.
- Maintains and repairs equipment, grounds, parks, playing fields, and other facilities; ensures grounds are safe and meet required standards; preps grounds or fields as needed.
- Operates machinery and necessary equipment; ensures vehicles receive needed maintenance.
- Assists with special events, snow/storm debris removal, and unscheduled circumstances.
- Conducts supply inventory for area of responsibility; manages supplies. Processes routine documents and forms.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Six months of experience operating equipment related to assignment
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:.
- A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record. Depending upon department and position, some positions are permitted up to six months after hire to obtain this license.

- Setting up job sites such as cordoning off areas with cones or signs
- Stocking vehicle with necessary supplies
- Using a radio and phone
- Using chemicals properly
- Using and operating various equipment safely and correctly such as constructions vehicles, vacuums, pressure sprayers, paving equipment, hand grinders, chain saws, woodshop tools, etc.
- Operating vehicles and machines such as light and heavy dump trucks, tandem trucks, bucket trucks, boom trucks, compressor dump trucks, heavy rollers, pay loaders, backhoes, tractors with batwings, etc.
- Operating equipment and tools used in the Equipment Operator classification as well as those listed above

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, see, and perform repetitive motions; frequently climb, balance, stoop, kneel, finger, feel, and hear; and occasionally crouch, crawl, and talk. The working conditions may include environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
