The City of Richmond Main Library is seeking one Part-Time Office Assistant Courier that will support the delivery of books, materials and services to all library locations. Daily the library receives books and materials (new, used, and processed) from vendors, donors and library locations in the RPL system. Processing and disposition of these materials involves sorting, unpacking of boxes and bins to route materials to the correct location. This position assists and supports facility operations by moving chairs, tables, and other fixtures and furnishings to facilitate programs and meetings that occur in library space and locations. This is a critical position because it supports higher level processing and delivery of library resources.
Position is part-time (20 hours a week)
This class provides clerical and office support activities, administrative coordination and delivery services. Incumbents provide basic clerical and administrative support tasks following prescribed procedures and instructions. As assigned, work may include:- Preparing bulk mailing, distributing mail and providing general information to all internal and external customers.
- Serving as a courier/driver to deliver books, materials, bank deposits, and mail.
- Loading and unloading mail, other materials, and equipment form a vehicle.
- Sorting, processing and distributing mail.
- Preparing mail for postage.
- Assisting with the packages of items.
- Operating machines to insert and fold notices into mailers.
- Data Entry
- Filing and maintaining filing systems.
- Answering phones and taking messages.
- Copying, ordering and maintaining supplies and forms.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge in US postal regulations.
Skilled in customer service and oral and written communication.
Proven ability to work independently with little direct supervision and maintain a professional attitude.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED
One year of general office receptionist duties
An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification

Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Motor Vehicle Operator's License with a satisfactory driving record

In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties this classification is considered to be heavy work (exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects), but may differ based on area of focus. The working conditions may contain environmental hazards, depending on area of focus.
