What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Worker - Street Cleaning position at City of Richmond?
- Assisting maintenance personnel with Storm Water drainage
- Operating hydraulic, pneumatic, and power hand tools;
- Using general hand tools for manual labor;
- Serving as a Flagger while working in Roadway; directing traffic and spotter drivers
- Assisting with emergency maintenance programs related to weather: hurricane, rain, snow, and tornadoes;
- Cleaning building, equipment and vehicles to ensure good upkeep;
- Basin cleaning to include sewer and manhole;
- Securing worksite and manual labor with shovels, rakes, and other tools
- Operating small engine equipment, chainsaw, target saw, plate tamper, jumping jack and cutting grass daily;
- Operating Forklift.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Education sufficient for satisfactory job performance
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- No prior work experience
- One (1) year of work experience preferred
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
- Requires a valid driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license within 30 days of hire

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly stand, walk, push, lift, grasp, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions; frequently balance, stoop, crouch, reach, pull, finger, feel, and talk; and occasionally climb, kneel, and crawl. The working conditions may include environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
