What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Maintenance Technician position at City of Richmond?
- Inspecting automobiles and light, medium and heavy-duty trucks and related equipment to determine necessary repairs
- Performing preventive maintenance and repair work on gasoline, diesel, and electric vehicles
- Inspecting, adjusting, and replacing necessary units and related parts including valves, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, wipers, headlights, and other similar equipment
- Cleaning and maintaining the garage area and equipment
- Assisting in inventory of tools, supplies and materials for the garage
- Performing duties related to equipment maintenance during emergencies and natural disasters
- Input information into a maintenance management system
- Other related duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of automotive maintenance experienced related to assignment
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license within 30 days of hire.
- Some assignments may require a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach extending hands and arms in any direction, stand, walk, push, pull, lift raising objects from a lower to higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position, , finger (pick, pinch, type or otherwise work primarily with fingers), grasp, talk, see, hear, feel and use substantial repetitive movements of the wrists, hands and fingers. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
