What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Attendant position at City of Richfield, MN?
Under general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, provides responsible supervision of recreation programs, athletic areas, park shelters, farmers market, special events and equipment. This is a seasonal position and is therefore temporary in nature. Position ends at the end of the season.
- Assist with on-site recreation program supervision and needs.
- Communicate and develop positive rapport with users of City of Richfield park facilities and programs.
- Perform light maintenance duties as assigned at the community center and other park facilities, including but not limited to cleaning restrooms, picking up litter, and emptying trash and recycling receptacles.
- Inspect park facilities and grounds for potential maintenance or safety issues, addressing the problems and/or informing Supervisor of those concerns.
- Complete transactions through point-of-sale system, collect money and give correct change. Operate credit card machine. Follow proper money handling procedures.
- Monitor program supplies and inform supervisor when they need to be repaired, replaced or replenished.
- Open buildings and turn on and off lights according to conditions and as scheduled.
- Check on shelter and field reservations for permits.
- Ensure city ordinances and regulations are being followed at parks and programs including but not limited to rules and safety suggestions at the skate park, and tobacco policies.
- Address complaints and relay pertinent information to Supervisor regarding program best practices or issues that need to be addressed.
- Collect program forms, injury accident reports, and/or game results and relay information to Supervisor.
- Cancel activities due to weather as needed to maintain safety of the participants and quality of the fields.
- Ability to use mobile tablet to access internet, apps, online file storage and understand online facility and program schedules.
- Assist with special events as needed.
- Attend trainings and staff meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Have access to reliable transportation and possess an active driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Customer service experience in a recreation setting or related work area, preferably working in group situations
- Fluency in Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese or other non-English language prevalent in the City of Richfield
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The physical demands that are described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Must have the ability to:
- Maintain physical condition necessary for moderate to heavy physical activity such as standing, walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, twisting, pushing, pulling, bending, stopping, squatting and lifting materials and supplies ranging from 20-100 lbs.
- Vision and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or by telephone.
- Finger dexterity to enter data using a cash register.
