SCHEDULE
Regular work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and respond to calls during non-working hours as required. Response time required for call backs is within 1 hour.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Performs regular maintenance, repair, and complete overhaul of cars, trucks, tractors, loaders, graders, fire equipment, and all other motor vehicles owned by the City of both gas and diesel type.
- Fabricates parts, mountings, and other accessories using welding equipment and torches.
- Uses standard tools and equipment of the trade.
- Prepares, in a complete and accurate manner, appropriate electronic work order form using maintenance software and personal computer.
- Available for emergency callback.
- Maintains good housekeeping practices in work area.
- Participates in efforts to ensure Richfield is an equitable, inclusive and respectful organization and supports the City’s mission, vision and core values.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES
- Demonstrates good knowledge of the practices, methods, techniques and equipment used in the repair, maintenance and overhaul of all types of motorized equipment, both gas and diesel.
- Demonstrates some knowledge of welding and fabricating.
- Demonstrates journeyman skills of heavy equipment and truck mechanic.
- Demonstrates knowledge of hydraulics and repair.
- Ability to follow established safety practices.
- Ability to respond willingly to varied work assignments and deadlines.
- Ability to have effective work relationships with staff, coworkers, vendors, and the public.
- Demonstrates an ability to understand and respect the diversity of customers and co-workers, effectively communicating with individuals whose first language may be one other than English.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
- HS Diploma/ GED or training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Must live less than one hour from Maintenance Facility
- Four years of truck and heavy equipment maintenance, repair, and overhaul work experience.
- Must have own set of tools
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
- Experience installing and diagnosing issues with Police/Fire vehicle electrical systems.
- Snowplowing experience preferred
LICENSURES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Must possess a valid Class A MN Driver’s License or ability to receive one within 6 months of hire date.
- Must possess Minnesota Highway Patrol Certification for vehicle inspection or ability to obtain certification within 6 months.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification preferred, but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands that are described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Ability to frequently lift 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to and including 70 pounds.
- Ability to work outside year round and during all weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physical labor requiring continual and repetitive use of large motor skills to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, crawl, crouch, push and pull, twist and turn, and conditional and repetitive use of fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
- Ability to operate heavy and light equipment to remove snow.
- Ability to hear, see, touch, and smell. Specific vision abilities required of this position include close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to distinguish colors and different shades of color.
- Ability to climb and work off ladders.
