GIS TECHNICIAN - Geographic Information Services
JOB SUMMARY:
Under supervision of the GIS Programming Manager, develop, maintain, and update various GIS data and related database and document storage information. Provide technical support for GIS users within the city. Perform other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Develop, edit, and update Geographic Information Systems data as directed by supervisor, using ArcGIS for Desktop, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Collector, Cityworks, OnBase, MSSQL, and Microsoft Office Suite products. Maintain computer-based data and records. Conduct research, field verification, and other activities related to GIS data verification. Use field-based GIS equipment including G.P.S., field computers, mobile and other devices for field data collection. Input existing field data based on maps and drawings and other electronic documents. Convert as-built and drafting data to the GIS system based on digital or hard copy documents. Print and create maps for GIS users, and under direction, provide analytical support to city staff. Maintain GIS hardware devices and install updates as required. Provide training on GIS hardware to city staff as required. Communicate courteously and effectively, verbally and in writing, with other City employees, officials, vendors, and the public. Sit for long periods of time, inputting data. Perform other duties as required.

Keep assigned work area and equipment clean and in safe condition.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:
Associate’s degree is required in geography, GIS, computer science, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree is preferred. GIS is certificate preferred.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Must have a minimum of three (3) months of experience as a GIS Intern. Must be skilled in use of personal computers, Windows operating systems, and Microsoft Office products. Must have a minimum one (1) year of experience using ArcGIS, including working with SDE, shapefiles, and mapping. Experience preferred with Cityworks, OnBase, IBM Notes, and large format scanners and plotters. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing. Must be able to maintain mental focus throughout all assignments and work effectively within a team environment.
