What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Administrator position at City of Republic?
Primary Purpose
This role is responsible for assistance with the management of the City’s server and PC infrastructure. Additionally, the position will provide staff support by responding to service tickets and participating in IT projects.
Supervision
Under direct supervision of the Information Technologies Manager.
- Responds to and resolves computer-related service tickets submitted by various department groups in a timely manner with adequate documentation of the process through internal ticketing system.
- Helps to plan, deploy, enhance, and may develop new and existing computer and telephone systems.
- Assists in the implementation of advanced and/or specialized systems throughout the City departments.
- Installs, configures, tests, maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots end user computing devices, software, mobile technology, telephone equipment, peripheral devices, networking, hardware, and software. Performs on-site analysis and diagnosis as needed.
- Implements and maintains imaging systems for computer systems.
- Maintains, upgrades, and replaces operating systems and software, servers, storage, and security solutions.
- Assists in the administration of the City’s Microsoft 365 tenancy.
- Leverages Microsoft RSAT for Windows to manage server, network, and computer environment (AD, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, RDS, and more).
- Mitigates security threats and conducts security audits as needed, to ensure effective measures are being administered.
- Helps conduct research on products, services, protocols, and industry standards to support implementation efforts. Evaluates and makes recommendations on new products.
- Assists in network device management, such as activating and configuring new ports on switch for new or moved devices.
- Deals effectively and courteously with all fellow staff and the public.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Important Duties
- Attends in-service training sessions or other training sessions deemed appropriate by supervisor or department head.
- Assists in training end users in the use of equipment and software.
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
- Handles a wide variety of work, sometimes simultaneously, on a regular basis. Maintains confidentiality as required.
Education & Experience
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, plus two (2) years of related professional experience. Directly related work experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- IT certifications (A , Network , Security , Microsoft certifications, etc.) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Must have a working knowledge and ability to maintain and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows (server and desktop), Apple iOS, Linux; Must provide excellent customer service in responding to and resolving service requests; Must have experience managing and monitoring network storage backup solutions, working knowledge of Synology and Veeam Solutions preferred; Must be able to research and interpret technical manuals, procedural documentation, or other related information; Must effectively perform troubleshooting to isolate or resolve issues; Must effectively communicate during ticket response and documenting process, prioritize service requests, and respond accordingly; Must demonstrate desire to learn more and familiarize themselves with all City information systems including the associated software programs; Must have a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Office365; Experience with Cisco switch and router management (preferred); Knowledge of Windows 10 and 11, working knowledge of Windows Server, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance; Familiarity with virtualization (VMWare and Hyper-V) server management preferred.

Special Requirements
- Must possess a valid Missouri State Driver’s License and at times may be required to utilize one’s own personal vehicle to work at various City Department locations.
Miscellaneous Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays.
- Must be a dependable person due to the small size of the work force.
- Subject to emergency call-in.
Physical Demands
Must possess the ability to operate a computer keyboard and/or mouse. Must have the ability to lift 40 pounds and move objects in accordance with completing job functions.
Work Environment
Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general office environment.
