The City of Reno is currently accepting applications for various part-time positions. The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking energetic, reliable, and community-focused individuals to support Park Activation Programs throughout parks, plazas, and public spaces. These positions provide frontline support for recreational programming, events, and community activations and serve as welcoming representatives of the City of Reno. We have many positions available that cater to different interests and skills. Salaries and hours vary by position and may include evenings, weekends and holidays. Available Positions:
- Community Activation Assistant ($15-16.50/hour) (Available year-round)
- Park Activation Lead Specialist ($16.75-18.75/hour) (Available year-round)
- Senior Park Activation Lead ($20-26/hour) (Available year-round) Seasonal Event Host ($20-26/hour) (Available year-round)
Examples of Essential Functions
Community Activation Assistant:
- Provide essential onsite support for park activation programs, recreation activities, and community events.
- Support recreation programs, activations, and events by assisting with setup, breakdown, and basic operations.
- Monitor program areas to help ensure participant safety and appropriate use of park facilities.
Park Activation Lead Specialist:
- Assists with daily operations, supports staff coordination, and serves as a point of contact during assigned shifts.
- Provide direction, support, and on-the-job training to Park Hosts. Serve as an on-site resource for participants, partners, and City staff.
- Lead and oversee park activation programs, events, and special initiatives.
- Train and supervise Park Hosts and Shift Leads during assigned programs.
- Ensure compliance with City policies, permits, and safety requirements.
Seasonal Event Host:
- Provide onsite support during festivals, concerts, community gatherings, neighborhood activations, and specialized programs; serve as a liaison between event organizers and City departments (e.g., Parks & Recreation, Public Works, Public Safety); and act as a resource to promoters, vendors, and attendees regarding public facilities, programs, and services.
- Monitor event sites and program areas to ensure promoter compliance with City requirements and approved permits, including maintaining safety, cleanliness, organization, and appropriate use of facilities.
Supplemental Information
Some positions may have a higher age requirement than 16 and require additional certifications for employment. The minimum qualification requirements for the Activation positions can be found below.
Community Activation Assistant:
- Age: 16
- Experience: Customer service, recreation, or volunteer experience preferred
- Certifications: CPR/First Aid preferred or willingness to obtain
Park Activation Lead Specialist:
- Age: 18
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience: One year of experience in recreation programs, events, or customer service
- Licenses: Valid driver’s license required Certifications: CPR/AED and First Aid preferred
- Age: 18
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience: Two years of experience in recreation programs, events, hospitality, or related fields
- Licenses: Valid driver’s license required
- Preferred: Bilingual abilities (Spanish or other languages) Certifications: CPR/AED and First Aid preferred
- Age: 18

Education: An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent in
Experience. - Experience: Two years of experience in event operations, hospitality, or customer service; expertise in specialized area such as Recreation, Inclusion, Athletics, Parks, etc.
- Preferred: Bilingual abilities (Spanish or other languages)
- Licenses: Valid driver’s license
- Certifications: CPR/AED and First Aid preferred
