What are the responsibilities and job description for the Athletics Worker (Rover) position at City of Reidsville?
Duties include maintaining the official score sheets and operating scoreboards for all youth baseball, basketball, football, and softball games held by the City of Reidsville Parks and Recreation Department. Scorekeepers also manage the recording of names, statistics, and monitoring certain rules. Other duties will include: concession sales and assisting with special Parks and Recreation events/activities. Employees in this position are responsible for the implementation and supervision of various athletic programs and activities at various locations, including the Reidsville Teen Center, Lake Reidsville, City of Reidsville Recreation Center, and neighborhood parks.
Work hours will vary according to scheduled athletic programs. Work hours are primarily evenings and weekends.
Essential Functions

- Greets the public and answers questions in a friendly manner
- Responds to inquiries from employees, customers, and guests, or refers them to appropriate staff for further assistance
- Assists in the completion of paperwork such as official score sheets and operating scoreboards, etc.
- Cooperatively works with other staff to ensure a professional and enjoyable work environment
- Perform daily cleaning/organization duties
- Responsible for the care, distribution, and collection of City-owned sporting equipment
- Notify Maintenance of significant problems with equipment
- Administers first aid to visitors, guests, and other staff
- Additional duties as assigned or requested
- Must enjoy young children and be able to engage and entertain them between sporting events and practices.
- Provides high-quality customer service by being friendly, tactful, and courteous, and maintains an alert and professional posture at all times (dress and hygiene)
- 18 years of age or older, or have graduated from high school
- Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work
- General knowledge of early childhood development
- General knowledge of what constitutes exemplary customer service
- Ability to serve as a role model for participants and staff
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions and communicate well both verbally and in writing
- Possess desired qualities such as diplomacy, trustworthiness, reliability, and diligence
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with youth, parents, park staff, community organization partners and the general public
- Must be able to work under pressure and be willing to diplomatically confront users not following park rules
- Ability to pass a post-offer background check and drug screen
Working Environment
The work of this position will be exposed to outdoor hazards, including extremes in temperature, and significant weather events.
