What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Youth And Adult Sports Field/Court Monitor position at City of Reedley?

The Community Services Department,  is recruiting for two (2) Youth or Adult Sports Field / Court Monitor (Pickleball) positions. The Youth or Adult Pickleball Program is expected to run year-round and take place on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Work hours for this position will vary, and the schedule is subject to change.

DEFINITION
Under the supervision of the Community Services Director or designee, the field/court monitor provides for the safety and enjoyment of the players and spectators within the youth and adult sports programs while overseeing the activity and ensuring all program needs are being met.

EXERCISE OF SUPERVISION
  • Supervises program participants. Exercises no supervision of staff.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
(may include but are not limited to the following)
  • Monitor all related facilities being used by program participants.
  • Assist and/or attend coaches meeting.
  • Recruitment of coaches/volunteers.
  • Oversee all organized activities including practices and games.
  • Review timesheets before submitting for approval.
  • Maintain indoor and outdoor play areas, ensure safety of participants and staff.
  • Interact in a professional manner to coaches, players, and spectators.
  • Set up and clean up all supplies and equipment.
  • Open and close the facilities.
  • Monitor equipment needs.
  • Keep control of games or practices including coaches and spectators.
  • Keep assigned area clean and free of safety hazards at all times.
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Training Guidelines
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

Experience:
  • Must be 16 or older.
  • A minimum of one year of experience with children between the ages of 5-13 is desirable.
  • Have some experience with planning, organizing, and leading a wide variety of recreation activities.
  • Must know the basic rules, practices, and equipment used in specialized recreation activities.
Education:
  • None.
Training:
  • Community First Aid and CPR Certification is desirable. Certification may be obtained after employment is offered.
License or Certificate:
  • Valid California driver’s license desirable
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be lifting and carrying children and equipment, and may spend time standing and moving around for periods at a time. Lifting, carrying and/or pushing 50 pounds or more may be required on occasion. The employee will be expected to clean and maintain the equipment and the facility. The employee may encounter children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff, and themselves.
  • The employee will be working in a busy and occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at the same time. The employee is required to supervise children and ensure a safe environment and appropriate activities. The employee must be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time and make quick decisions under stress.
