We are seeking skilled and motivated individuals to join our team as a Water Distribution Maintenance Technician. In this role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining the safety, reliability, and functionality of our city’s water system.
In this role, you will perform a wide range of essential duties to support the reliability and safety of the water distribution system. Core responsibilities include identifying and repairing water main and service line leaks, performing valve maintenance, inspecting and repairing hydrants, troubleshooting water quality issues, conducting system flushing, installing meters, and delivering excellent customer service. Technicians also participate in a rotational standby program to provide after-hours emergency response coverage.

This position is in-person and full-time, working a 4/10 schedule from 6:00am–4:30pm, Monday through Thursday.
- Install and repair water mains, valves, fire hydrants, service lines, blow offs, air relief assemblies, and pressure reducing valves
- Perform a full range of maintenance and repair duties, such as locating and repairing leaks in water mains, service lines, tapping, cutting, fitting, laying, cleaning and flushing lines and fittings and restoring area to original condition
- Adhere to safety standards and programs, including confined space entry, fall protection, asbestos-cement pipe cutting and respiratory protection, and work zone safety.
- Hydro-excavate to locate water mains or service lines for repair or to locate other underground utilities
- Operate gate valves and butterfly valves throughout water system
- Test, replace, repair, read and install residential and commercial water meters (touch read and radio read), including the installation of the MXU signal device on radio read meters
- Complete meter reads and troubleshoot and repair water meters and service lines based on work orders generated by the customer or utility billing office
- Flush the water system and conduct pressure and volume tests and check for chlorine residual in the water after cleaning
- Inspect new water lines and various system infrastructures at construction sites for compliance with City standards and bond release
- Maintain diligent maintenance and inspection records and provide accurate field information to update GIS systems.
- Any combination equivalent to high school diploma or equivalency and one (1) year construction or trades experience.
Licenses and Certificates
- Valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record that meets City standards.
- Additional licenses and certificates that may be required depending on the area in which incumbent is assigned:
- CDL, Class A
- Washington State Department of Transportation Flagging Certification;
- First Aid/CPR;
- WDM 1 (desirable)

Salary : $69,715 - $104,604
