Safe drinking water is the number one priority for the City of Redmond. The water utility manages 318 miles of watermains, seven reservoirs, five booster stations, and five municipal wells. 

The City’s Public Works Department provides essential services that safeguard public health and strengthen Redmond’s infrastructure as well as its built and natural environment. Guided by our mission to build, operate, protect, and maintain critical infrastructure, utility teams manage drinking water supply, wastewater conveyance, and stormwater quality in ways that promote sustainability, system reliability, and community trust. 

We are seeking an experienced water professional to lead the City’s Water Quality Operations Division. As our new supervisor, you will take on a large degree of responsibility for the programs, infrastructure, and skilled staff that are essential to the provision of safe, reliable drinking water. In this highly collaborative role, you will work closely with line-of-business partners and a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to accomplish City and Department goals, establish policies and procedures, and advocate for the priorities of Water Quality operations.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with all applicable water monitoring and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee the maintenance, operations, and repair of well, treatment, booster station, and reservoir equipment.
  • Supervise the administration of the City’s Cross Connection Control and Water Metering Programs.
  • Collaborate closely with internal partners from the Water Operations Division, Utility Engineering, Capital Projects, Utility Billing, Technology Information Services (TIS,) and others.
  • Day to day supervision, coaching, and recruitment of staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required 

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and monitor the work activities of plans, projects, teams, and programs according to priorities, schedules, and deadlines.  
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and respectfully (written and oral) in a variety of situations with diverse audiences and groups.  
  • Proficient with MS Office applications and experience or ability to learn other software (Teams, SharePoint, building control systems, data loggers, etc.) to accomplish tasks as needed.  

Education and Experience

  • Three years experience in parks or public works operations, 

  • Supervisory experience preferred; or demonstrated leadership experience or team lead experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred

  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Licenses and Certificates

  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License required

  • Certification by the Department of Health as a Water Distribution Manager IV (WDM 4) (required by WAC 246-290) – preferred, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.

  • Cross Connection Certification preferred
