The Engineering Division of the Public Works Department is seeking a Technical Intern. This position is expected to remain in effect until December 2027.
- Assists professional technical employees in the performance of their duties or performs these duties under close supervision. Makes photocopies and blueprints.
- Receives instructions from staff members and applies knowledge to work situations.
- Learns departmental policies, procedures and methods of operation.
- Assists in collecting and analyzing data, preparing charts and reports.
- Participates in studies and prepares reports under the supervision of professional staff.
- Operates a variety of equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:
- Basic principles and concepts of the academic field related to the department to which the employee is assigned.
- Basic mathematical principles.
- Grammar and techniques for the preparation and distribution of information
- Basic principles and practices of organization and public administration.
- Research techniques.
- Methods of report presentation.
- Report writing
- Depending upon assignment, basic principles of public administration.
Ability to:

Education, Experience & Special Requirements:
- Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying; typical education would include being currently enrolled in a program leading to a degree from an accredited college, university, or equivalent.
- Typical experience would include some prior relevant experience
- Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.

Selection Process: Final appointment is contingent upon:
- Positive past employment references.
- Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 and older).
- Passing a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test.
Veterans Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating "Honorable Discharge" from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
