ACCOUNTING MANAGER

City of Rapid City
Rapid, SD Full Time
POSTED ON 8/22/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/19/2026

The Monument is seeking a skilled and collaborative accounting leader to oversee daily financial operations in a fast-paced, event-driven environment as our Accounting Manager. This role ensures financial accuracy, strengthens internal controls, and supports strategic decision-making across the organization. As a key partner to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager plays a critical role in delivering reliable financial information, improving processes, and supporting exceptional experiences for our community and event partners.

What Makes This Role Unique

  • Event-Driven Financial Leadership: You will manage financial operations for a premier entertainment venue, including event settlements that occur immediately after performances.
  • High-Impact Collaboration: Work directly with promoters, tenants, vendors, and internal departments to ensure seamless financial coordination.
  • Strategic Influence: Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning that shape the future of The Monument.
  • Your schedule includes both office-based accounting work and event-based leadership responsibilities. Evenings and weekends are part of the rhythm of our industry, and you’ll oversee event settlements, support operational teams, and represent The Monument during key performances as part of the Manager on Duty rotation. The pace can be fast, loud, and highly dynamic—ideal for someone who thrives in both structured accounting work and the excitement of live events.
  • Growth & Improvement Focus: You will identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, consistency, and financial integrity.

What you will do

You will oversee daily accounting operations for The Monument, ensuring compliance with GAAP, City policies, and all regulatory requirements. This includes maintaining internal controls, managing cash handling and reconciliations, leading month-end and year-end close processes, preparing and reviewing financial statements, coordinating annual audits, and supervising the Accounting Team. You will also develop and implement accounting procedures that strengthen financial consistency and operational efficiency.

In addition, you will manage event-related financial activities by preparing assigned settlements, reviewing documentation for accuracy and contractual compliance, and collaborating with promoters, tenants, vendors, and internal partners. You will support the Director of Finance with annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range planning. This role also includes serving as Manager on Duty and acting as settlement manager for ticketed events, which requires availability during nights and weekends based on event schedules, along with other duties as assigned.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance required.
  • 5 years of accounting experience required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong accuracy, attention to detail, and documentation skills.
  • Understanding of internal controls and financial reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting principles.
  • Ability to learn and utilize financial systems and analytical tools.
  • Adaptability in a dynamic, event-driven environment.
  • Entertainment venue experience a plus.
