Full Time – Public Works Division

Salary Range: $17.00 To $22.00 Hourly
Summary
A Public Works Laborer is a versatile worker capable of adapting to various assignments across city maintenance, streets, parks, drainage, water supply, and wastewater systems. This position requires rigorous manual labor, strong physical stamina, strict safety compliance, and the ability to operate tools and equipment effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain water, wastewater, and drainage systems.
- Conduct repairs as well as preventative and emergency maintenance on various water and wastewater systems.
- Operate a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment.
- Perform minor field repairs on city equipment and vehicles.
- Operate different sizes of vehicles, trucks, pumps, mowers, and other lawn/maintenance equipment as needed.
- Ensure all safety protocols and guidelines are strictly followed while performing maintenance tasks.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests outside of regular working hours when necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- None.
Qualifications & Education
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Relevant technical certifications or vocational training in facilities/infrastructure maintenance is a plus.
- Proven experience in facilities maintenance, general repairs, basic plumbing, and basic mechanics.
- Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools safely.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to accurately diagnose mechanical or structural issues.
- Demonstrated ability to work, collaborate, and communicate professionally (both verbally and in writing) with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Valid Texas Class C driver's license (or the ability to obtain one by start of employment) with a clean driving record.
Special Requirements
- Applicant must be eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of hire.
- Must pass a background check with no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history within the past seven (7) years.

Work is performed mostly in a field environment. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distant, and color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
