This position is non-exempt under FLSA. Under general supervision of the WW Maintenance Supervisor, performs skilled mechanical repair, maintenance, construction, adjustments, replacements, and overhaul of wastewater treatment plant structures and equipment. Performs related work as required.

Works primarily indoors, in a wastewater treatment plant facility with exposure to noise, moving parts, heights, dangerous chemicals, disease, and extreme weather conditions. The employee must be willing to work overtime and during emergency situations. The work also involves heavy lifting and working in confined spaces.
Within six (6) months of date of hire or promotion, must also meet and comply with the licensing requirements of the Commercial Motor Vehicle Act of 1986 in obtaining and maintaining a valid, unrestricted Class "A" Colorado Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements. Failure to obtain and maintain a Class "A" Colorado Commercial Driver's License may result in demotion or termination.
All required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout the term of employment. Failure to obtain or maintain licenses and certifications may result in demotion or termination.
Due to Federal and State Criminal Justice System access requirements, classifications that access and maintain criminal justice information may also be required, as a condition of employment, to not have been convicted of and/or have pending charges of a felony or misdemeanor crime that would deny or otherwise restrict access to criminal justice information. This requirement applies to all existing City employees as well as external candidates seeking to fill positions that meet the given criteria.

- Services, installs, repairs, and maintains pumps, blowers, compressors, motors, plumbing, boilers, gas/chemical systems, hydraulics, centrifuges, pneumatics, polymer make-up systems, and automated oil/grease lubrication systems
- Performs building related service and repairs such as carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing, and mechanical work
- Performs light and emergency repairs on vehicles and road worthy equipment
- Supervises and assists personnel of a lower classification
- Assists in the purchasing and procurement of parts and services
- Uses a large technical maintenance and repair library
- Utilizes gas and electric welding and cutting tools to fabricate parts and repair and maintain machinery and equipment
- Operates pipe threaders, drill press/milling machine, grinders, hydraulic press, torque wrenches, torque multipliers, overhead hoists/cranes, dial indicator, and precision measuring equipment
- Reads and interprets electrical, hydraulic, piping, and mechanical drawings and schematics
- Uses test equipment and schematics to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment and systems
- Works in permit-required confined spaces
- Assists with the treatment plant operations as instructed
- May perform the duties of similar classifications of an equal or lower pay grade
- Lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds
- Frequently performs activities that require repetitive motions and a full range of body movement including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, pushing, pulling, climbing, and twisting
- Hand/foot/eye coordination is needed for operation of vehicles, equipment, and tools
- Near and far visual acuity required to read manuals and written instructions, record data, and operate equipment
- Hearing/listening required to provide technical information and communicate with employees, supervisors, and customers
- Frequently climbs ladders and stairs in a multi-level facility.
- Requires a working knowledge of materials, tools, building codes, and procedures used in industrial maintenance and trade work
- Must have knowledge of and be able to successfully perform skilled work in the following trade areas: plumbing, pipe fitting, welding, carpentry, janitorial, and painting
- Must be able to operate semi-truck rigs and other equipment such as loaders, trucks, and farm tractors
- Must be able to follow safety procedures and rules including those pertaining to permit-required confined space.
- Working knowledge of wastewater treatment practices and operating processes is desirable
- Must be physically able to perform the duties of the job
- Must be able to work successfully with supervisors, other City employees, the public, and other agencies
- Ability to perform all the job duties in a safe manner
- A high school diploma or GED
- Five (5) years of successful experience in mechanical maintenance
- Up to two (2) years of related trade or technical school (associate degree level) may substitute for successful experience in mechanical maintenance
- A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment
- License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification
- During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license
- Industrial, water, or wastewater treatment plant maintenance experience
