NATURE OF WORK

The Golf Course Mechanic is responsible for overseeing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program of the golf course equipment and golf carts. The Golf Course Mechanic is required to report any needs or problems with course equipment and machinery to the Golf Course Superintendent or the Head Professional/Facility Manager. Safety is a top priority and this position is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building. This is a part-time, hourly position.  


SUPERVISION RECEIVED/REVIEW OF WORK: 

Works under the general supervision of the Head Superintendent 

The duties listed are intended only as Illustrative examples of the various types of work that may be performed by individuals in this classification. Any of the following duties may be performed.   • Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in golf course maintenance equipment including, diesel, electric, and gasoline-powered automobiles, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, mowers, and any other mechanical equipment used in golf course maintenance work.  
  • Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventative maintenance for all equipment.
  • Places orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. 
  • Assists the Superintendent with training of golf course maintenance employees on proper cleaning of, and safe operation of equipment.
  • Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work.
  • Maintains a preventative maintenance program within budget on all equipment.
  • Spot checks equipment for performance on the course, makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and services equipment prior to use.
  • Sets mow height for all mowers to specifications set by Superintendent. 
  • Cares for and maintains the golf cart fleet – including battery maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance. 
  • Follows proper safety protocol at all times.   
  • Perform other duties as assigned

In the performance of the job duties, the employee will be regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk, talk, or hear, sit climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and smell.


The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


Manual dexterity and coordination are required to perform the work. This is used while operating equipment such as computer keyboards; calculator; telephones, and mechanical equipment. 


TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:


In the performance of job duties, the employee will operate mower; bunker rake; golf cart; tractor; reel grinder; hydraulic lift; hand tools; and other golf course maintenance related tools and equipment.

In the performance of the job duties, the employee will work primarily indoors. Work is normally performed in a well-lit shop; some work is performed outside where the employee may be subject to extreme weather conditions (heat or cold).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School graduate or GED recipient. A minimum of three years’ experience in equipment maintenance and repair.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools and the making of various types of mechanical repair.
  • Working knowledge of the theory, care and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.
  • Ability to move heavy objects.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to keep business records.
  • Ability to maintain effective team and public relations.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND CERTIFICATIONS:


Must be able to pass a criminal record and background investigation.


The individual shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others in the workplace.

This is a non-supervisory position. Lead work/coordination of the work of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. Incumbents in this position may provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel.

Salary : $26 - $30
