Outside Maintenance Worker

City of Primghar is accepting applications for this full time, year round position. The Outside Maintenance Worker performs a variety of routine, skilled, manual, and maintenance work with city streets, alleys, vehicles, equipment, buildings, grounds, cemetery, and parks. Assists water, sewer, and electric crews. Qualified applicant shall have a valid Class B CDL Iowa Driver's License or willing to optain (within first few months of employment).

Works under the direct supervision of the City Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in removal of snow and maintaining of city streets.
• Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, repairs, etc.
• Assists in Iowa One Calls and the locations of gas, telephone, power, television, water and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.
• Contacts residents and business owners in area where services or access may be discontinued and explains when access or services will be restored.
• Insures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
• Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel and sand.
• Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor;
• Cleans equipment.
• Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, such as mechanized broom, jetter/inductor truck or backhoe/loader, snow plow and blower, grader, and lawn tractors.
• Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists water, sewer, or electric crews as needed.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

A maintenance worker must be a minimum, 18-years of age, by date of hire due to insurance carrier regulations for operating city equipment.

Valid Iowa Class B CDL Driver's License
