Police Officers/School Resource Officers act in the capacity of police officers who enforce laws related to the protection of life and property, direct and control traffic, prevent crime or disturbance of peace, and arrests violators. In addition, they are responsible for providing security and police services, working as a visible presence in the school community to build relationships with students, staff and families. The SRO provides law enforcement expertise and works collaboratively with school administrators to identify and resolve safety concerns, detaining and arresting students as necessary. The SRO provides a positive image of law enforcement and delivers educational and safety presentations to staff and students. The SRO will provide security for certain school functions before and after school hours and may sometimes perform crossing guard duties. May perform other related work as required.
This position is subject to the City of Portland’s Background Investigation and Drug Testing Policy. The City verifies all information prior to extending an offer of employment. New hires are required to provide proof of identity and legal authority to work in the United States per Federal law.

Qualifications
High School graduate or equivalent required. Basic TCOLE certification required. Ability to work varied shifts, after-hour call-outs, during inclement weather, disaster situations, and other emergency incidents or situations required.
Special Requirements
Valid Texas Class C Drivers’ License with a good driving record. Must pass a drug screen and physical exam. Must pass a psychological exam. Must pass an extensive background investigation. This position is essential and attendance is mandatory in the event of a storm or disaster.

Salary/Benefits
- Annual starting salary of $64,500
- $5,000 sign-on incentive, payable 30 days after successfully completing Field Training Officer (FTO) training.
- $2,000 moving allowance
- $1,500 referral fee to any city employee that recommends an applicant for a Police Officer position and that applicant is successfully hired
