The City of Portage is looking for reliable, results-driven individuals, with stamina, for the position of Seasonal Grounds person within our Public Works Department.
What will you do?
This position will assist Maintenance Technicians in performing the annual leaf clean-up throughout the parks, cemeteries, and streets in Porage. Primary duties will be wearing a gas-powered backpack leaf blower and walking with the trucks, blowing the leaves on the side of the road into the truck's path for pickup. Other duties may be assigned based on needs and experience.
What are the qualifications?
Must lift objects and tools over 50 lbs. and work under adverse weather conditions. Must be able to walk long distances daily through neighborhoods and main roads. Previous related experience is desired. Must be at least 18 years old and pass a basic background check and drug/alcohol screening. Must have a valid driver’s license with a good record.
When would I work and what will I be paid?
The hours are 7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M., Monday – Friday. Positions will be October 23 - December 5th for those who are consistently reliable and have a good work ethic. Over-time may be available and occasionally required if the team gets behind on the leaf pickup schedule. $16.00/hour. No benefits.
