The starting salary for this position depends on qualifications and is as follows:
Building Construction Inspector I- $32.31 - $37.15
Building Construction Inspector II- $33.92 - $39.01
Building Construction Inspector III- $35.62 - $40.96
Building Construction Inspector IV- $37.40 - $43.01
Technical work conducting building inspections to ensure compliance with existing codes, ordinance and statues. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.
This position is considered an "Essential Position" for the purpose of Emergency Management. Emergency duties will be assigned as needed. This position requires 24 hours a day, 7 days per week availability during City of Port St Lucie emergencies, as determined by City Administrators, Emergency Manager or City Officials.
Technical work conducting building inspections to ensure compliance with existing codes, ordinance and statues. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.
The following duties are illustrative for this position. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Education And/Or Experience
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required.
I. Five (5) years’ experience in construction, design or inspections of buildings as supervisor or contractor, and must possess a minimum of ONE valid building inspector certification or the ability to obtain certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
II. Six (6) years’ experience in construction, design, or inspections of buildings as supervisor or contractor, and must possess minimum of TWO (2) valid building inspector certifications.
III. Seven (7) years’ experience in construction, design, or inspections of buildings as supervisor or contractor, and must possess minimum of THREE (3) valid building inspector certifications.
IV. Eight (8) years’ experience in construction, design, or inspections of buildings as supervisor or contractor, and must possess a minimum of FOUR (4) valid building inspector certifications or the One and Two Dwelling Inspector Certification.
Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License and maintenance of a clean driving record required. Possession and maintenance of State of Florida-mandated licensing requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, and crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
