Job Description
The Outdoor Recreation Worker provides customer service, program instruction, education, and guidance to various patrons. This position requires applicants to be 16 years of age or older.
The job may require successful completion of a background check. The job requires the ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, other organizations, and the general public. Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, in wet and humid conditions, with areas of dust, odors, mist, gases or other airborne matter. Employees work in/at places where they are exposed to mechanical hazards. This position works: days, evenings, and weekends as required.

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead Program Instructor manages other instructors, customers & volunteers in a variety of conditions and for extended periods.
- Provides supervision to 1-3 other division workers on a regular basis.
- Provides training to entry-level staff.
- Extensive experience in multiple relevant outdoor disciplines such as climbing, whitewater, Nordic ski, endurance events and resource management and 3-5 years of experience leading programs is required.
- Highest levels of certification required, including Swift Water Rescue, Wilderness First Responder, American Mountain Guide Association or Professional Ski Instructors of America - Nordic.

- Applicant must be 16 years of age or older;
- High school diploma or GED preferred;
- Basic First Aid certification may be required;
- Wilderness First Responder certification may be required;
- CPR certification may be required;
- Swift Water Rescue, American Mountain Guide Association or Professional Ski Instructors of America – Nordic certification may be required;
- Idaho Driver’s license is required.
