What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patrol Officer 2026 position at CITY OF PLEASANTON?
Under direction/supervision of the Sergeant, to enforce the laws of the State of Texas and ordinances of the City of Pleasanton. This position has frequent contact with the public that requires tact and diplomacy. The primary function of this position is to protect life and property through enforcement of laws, crime prevention, public service, and patrol operations with a focus on traffic control.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic Peace Officer Certification through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
- Ability to pass a fitness assessment if required
- Valid Texas Driver License with acceptable driving record
- Ability to maintain TCOLE licensure and department-required certifications
- Must be able to successfully pass background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and drug screening as required by department standards and applicable law
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- Prior patrol experience preferred
- Enforces state and local criminal and traffic laws
- Patrols the streets and assigned areas of the city, while maintaining high visibility
- Provides close patrol and security presence for businesses and residential areas
- Responds to dispatched calls for service and assists other officers on duty
- Conducts investigations of criminal activity ranging from misdemeanors to felony offenses, as well as traffic accidents
- Conducts preliminary scene investigations.
- Assists Investigators in processing crime scenes and other investigative duties
- Performs other related duties as required by Patrol Sergeant, CID Investigators, and Command Staff
- Maintains a professional image while on duty as a representative of the department
- Prepares accurate incident, accident, arrest, and investigative reports utilizing department reporting systems and computer software
- Operates and maintains department-issued equipment, including body-worn cameras, in accordance with department policy
- Performs continuous patrol in all areas of the city
- Other duties as assigned

- Maintains a close working relationship with other Officers and Investigators
- Maintains high visibility to deter criminal activity
- Maintains working relationship with the community
- Maintains sound judgment within guidelines set by State law, city policy, and department policy in situations of high stress and danger
- Utilizes department technology, computer systems, mobile data terminals, and communication equipment in the performance of duties
- Makes frequent decisions on matters requiring immediate action and mature judgment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds and to make forceful arrests when necessary
- Must be able to pursue subjects on foot, clear fences and other obstacles
- Ability to perform effectively in high-stress and emergency situations
- Must be able to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, emergency call-outs, and extended hours as required
- Subjected to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling, and working in cramped and strained positions for long periods of time
- Working conditions may be inside or outside with exposure to inclement weather; environmental hazards; excessive noise; animals, snakes, and poisonous insects
- Required to comply with personal protective equipment requirements
- Operates a city vehicle daily
SALARY & BENEFITS:
- Starting pay begins at approximately $25.25/hour DOE
- Additional pay available for qualified certifications such as TCOLE Intermediate, Advanced, and Master certifications

- Retention incentive available for qualified applicants upon successful completion of service milestones:
Ø $500 after first paycheck
Ø $1,000 after successful completion of the first year
Ø $1,000 after successful completion of the second year
