Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the entry-level classification in the Park Maintenance Worker series. The incumbent follows routine procedures and guidelines in the application of prescribed duties and works under close supervision. This classification is distinguished from the Park Maintenance Worker II in that the latter performs more complex technical duties requiring a higher level of knowledge and skill.
Examples Of ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.
Minimum Qualifications :
Knowledge of: Routine construction, repair and landscape maintenance methods used in area of responsibility; tool and equipment operation and maintenance.
Skill in: Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; operating vehicles, operating equipment and tools required in assigned area of responsibility under supervision; following instructions.
Education: No formal education required.
Experience: Six months of previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or construction required.
Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and experience requirements.
Licenses and Certifications : Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license within 30 days of hire per state law).

Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when completing maintenance, repairs, and various daily tasks. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
Employees work in and around buildings and facilities and are exposed to constant noise, cold and hot temperatures, temperature swings, dust, mechanical hazards, and hazardous odors and fumes. When assigned to Forestry, may be exposed to noxious plants, venomous creatures, and wildlife within riparian forests.
