The Recreation Department of the City of Pittsburg, CA provides programs and services that enhance the quality of life for the community through aquatics, Senior Center, Small World Park, and other recreational activities and events. The Recreation Department will fill Recreation Leader I vacancies in any of the following areas that have openings such as Events, Youth Sports, and Youth Activities Leaders. Some assignments may handle rental fees for facilities and meeting rooms.

The City of Pittsburg is a culturally rich and diverse community of over 74,000 residents and expected to grow to 90,000 in the next 20 years. The City of Pittsburg is a full-service city following the council-manager form of government. We have about 300 full time employees and about 350 employees total (depending on the season). Pittsburg is currently organized into the following departments: City Management, Community and Economic Development (Building, Economic Development, Code Enforcement, and Planning), Community Services (Housing Authority, Pittsburg Power Company, and the Successor Agency to the former Redevelopment Agency), Recreation, Human Resources, Finance, Police, and Public Works (Engineering, Operations/Maintenance, Utilities, Facilities, Parks, and Water Treatment).

- Familiarity with pool safety protocols and water rescue techniques is desired.
- Current certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED (or willingness to obtain prior to start date).
The Recreation Department provides programs and services that enhance the quality of life for the Pittsburg community through the following:
- Youth and Young Adult Services: variety of programs for youth and young adults including job readiness, employment opportunities, wellness, and arts and community.
- Sports: variety of recreation sports leagues, camps and clinics for youth and adults and responsible for field rentals and usage.
- Small World Park: daily operations of children's amusement park that is open weekends only in the spring/fall and four days a week during the summer.
- Aquatics: operation of aquatic center including recreation and lap swim, classes, and programs and rentals.
- Senior Center: various activities and programs for residents, ages 50 to include exercise programs, financial counseling, crafts, special excursions, health management, social events, meals, and wellness.

Examples of Duties
Activities Aide
- Assists in the preparation of City events.
- Light custodial duties.
- Set up, take down and transport equipment for events.
- Positive attitude and excellent customer service skills are required.
- *Position may require a valid California Driver's License for some assignments.
- Keep records and scores for various youth and adult sports activities.
- Scorekeepers must have a general understanding of the sports programs, such as: softball, basketball and football.
- Assist in supervision of recreation programs.
- At least one year of experience working with youth in a group setting is required.

- Departmental Hiring Interviews: Accepted applicants will be interviewed by Recreation Staff and offered the hourly position if successful.
- Background/Pre-employment Process: If applicable, candidates will need to complete a background that may consist of livescan fingerprinting, drug screening, TB test, and any other required screening.
- New Hire Paperwork: After completion of the background/pre-employment process, successful candidates will complete new hire onboarding which includes paperwork, reviewing of applicable policies, and training.
- Police Trainee receives medical, dental, sick leave and retirement benefits while in the Police Academy.
- Other seasonal employees receive sick leave and are limited to 999 hours per fiscal year.
