JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under limited supervision in the City’s Planning and Development Services Division, assists the Development Review Manager with the City’s activities relating to planning and zoning. Provides customer service; participates in internal development review meetings; conducts research; and assists with the development, amendment, and implementation of the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code in coordination with local and state regulations and requirements. Assists the Division in achieving the City’s goals and objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, public administration, or related field and three (3) years progressively responsible experience in planning, zoning, and/or land use, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One (1) year of experience interpreting Florida Statutes preferred. Master’s degree, AICP certification, CFM certification, CRS experience, or GIS experience a plus.
- Requires a valid Florida driver license.
- Work involves a minimum of physical effort within an office environment.
- Occasional driving required to locations within the City, County, and Tampa Bay region.
- Requires flexible hours for attendance at City meetings and events.
- The job requires frequent fine manipulation, grasping, and repetitive motion of small objects.
- On rare occasions may be required to lift and carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Performs senior level professional planning work, including preparation of reports on land development cases, such as rezoning, Land Development Code amendments, conditional uses, variances, vacations, etc.
- Reviews plans, completes site inspections, and manages cases throughout the approval process.
- Meets with development professionals, City staff, and the public to discuss development of properties.
- Annually reviews changes of Florida Statutes.
- Drafts ordinances and amendments to the Land Development Code.
- Provides guidance and direction to technical staff in order to effectively and efficiently serve all stakeholders.
- Prepares maps and presentations.
- Gives presentations at monthly meetings of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, City Council, and the CRA Board.
- Assists, as needed, in all other areas of the Planning and Development Services Division and the Community Development Department as assigned.
