Concession Worker

Nature of Work

This is unskilled work involving the preparation of meals and general cleaning for the concession’s facilities located at Wears Farm Park and the Pigeon Forge Community Center. Activities associated with the job include assisting customers by preparing and serving meals, operating a cash register and general cleaning of facility and utensils by ensuring that proper sanitary guidelines are followed. Job performance is evaluated by the Lead Parks Concessions Worker and Athletics and Concessions Supervisor through review of the quality of meals prepared, knowledge of food preparation techniques and practices, ability to interact effectively with the public and co-workers, ability to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job and dependability in performing job related assignments.

Illustrative Examples of Work

• Assists customers and prepares orders upon request.

• Operates cash registers, receives cash from customers and ensures the proper refund of change.

• Assists with cleaning the concession area and cooking surfaces, equipment and utensils.

• Performs general cleaning chores as needed in the restrooms at the Wears Farm Park when necessary.

• Ensures that proper sanitary standards are maintained in compliance with health department guidelines and existing health regulations.

• Performs related duties as required.

Necessary Requirements of Work

Graduation from an accredited high school (or GED program) or presently attending high school; good organizational and interpersonal skills; some knowledge of commercial food preparation practices; sufficient strength and agility to perform job related duties; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities and skills:

• Knowledge of the materials and methods utilized for preparing snacks/meals and other food items on a small scale.

• Knowledge of the proper care and use of cooking equipment and utensils.

• Knowledge of health department regulations pertaining to commercial cooking operations.

• Knowledge of food rotation procedures and practices utilized to reduce the spoilage of food products.

• Knowledge of acceptable cash handling techniques including the accurate accounting of all funds received.

• Ability to consistently follow established policies and procedures pertaining to food preparation activities.

• Ability to organize personal activities and prepare requests for food in an efficient and rapid manner.

• Ability to interact with customers, co-workers and the public in a courteous and professional manner.

Physical Requirements

• This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects

• Work requires stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling and repetitive motions

• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word

• Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels

• Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work

• The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

Necessary Special Requirements

• Possession of First Aid and CPR certifications.

• Possession of an AED certification.

• Must be at least sixteen years of age.
