The Piedmont Recreation Department (PRD) is hiring Preschool Teachers to support our joyful, play-based programs for children ages 18 months to 5 years. At PRD, we believe play is serious work - and the most joyful kind.

What You'll Do:
- Engage with toddlers and preschoolers through hands-on play and exploration, building nurturing relationships and encouraging growth
- Lead and/or assist group activities: art, music, storytime, sensory play, circle time, and more
- Support and manage daily routines including snack time, toileting/diapering, and transitions
- Prepare, organize, and clean up learning materials and classroom spaces
- Foster an inclusive, welcoming classroom where all children feel safe, supported, and seen
- Provide diapering and toilet training support (especially in the Tiddlywinks program)
- Lift and carry children or classroom materials up to 35 lbs as needed
Who We're Looking For:

Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years old
- 12 ECE units preferred, or equivalent college coursework/experience
- 5 years experience in preschool or childcare (infant/toddler experience a plus)
- Strong English language skills (verbal and written) required for clear communication with children, families, and team members Multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply
- CPR/First Aid, TB Test, and Mandated Reporter certification (can be completed with PRD)
- Must pass DOJ fingerprint/background check
Compensation & Hours:
- Preschool Teacher (Recreation Leader III): $22–$30/hour - Equivalent to completion of four years of college and five years experience working in a childcare or recreation program. Completion of coursework in education, child development, or a related field is preferred. Very specialized experience in a play-based preschool program.
- Approx. 20–22 hours per week
Program Details & Shift Options:
All programs run weekday mornings and follow the Piedmont Unified School District calendar (closed on holidays and school breaks).
Tiddlywinks (ages 18–23 months)
- Caterpillars: Tuesday/Thursday, 8:45 AM–12:30 PM
- Butterflies: Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 8:30 AM–12:30 PM
Skipping Stones (ages 3–4): Monday–Thursday, 8:30 AM–12:30 PM
Hillside Playschool (ages 3–4): Monday–Thursday, 8:30 AM–1:30 PM
Pre-K (ages 4–5): Monday–Thursday, 8:30 AM–1:30 PM
