Police Officer – Piedmont Police Department

Starting Pay: $19.00 per hour

APOSTC-Certified Officers: Pay Negotiable Based on ExperienceAdditional $200 per Month Officer Hazard Pay

Job Summary

The Piedmont Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.

We are seeking motivated, dependable individuals who want to serve their community and become part of our team. Piedmont Police Officers are responsible for protecting life and property, preventing and investigating crime, enforcing state and local laws, and providing professional law enforcement services to the community.

Our officers perform a wide variety of law enforcement duties while working directly with the people they serve. We are looking for individuals who demonstrate integrity, good judgment, professionalism, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to serving others.

Both APOSTC-certified officers and individuals interested in beginning a career in law enforcement are encouraged to apply.

Compensation

  • Starting pay of $19.00 per hour upon completion of the Law Enforcement Academy.
  • APOSTC-certified officers may receive a higher starting rate based on experience
  • $200 per month Officer Hazard Pay
  • Additional benefits provided in accordance with City of Piedmont policies

Duties and Responsibilities

Police Officers with the Piedmont Police Department perform a variety of duties, including:

  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
  • Conducting proactive patrol throughout the City of Piedmont
  • Preventing and detecting criminal activity
  • Enforcing Alabama criminal and traffic laws and City ordinances
  • Conducting traffic stops and investigating traffic crashes
  • Conducting preliminary criminal investigations
  • Interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects
  • Collecting, documenting, and preserving evidence
  • Making lawful arrests
  • Preparing accurate incident, arrest, accident, and investigative reports
  • Responding to disturbances, domestic incidents, alarms, suspicious activity, and other calls for assistance
  • Providing assistance during medical emergencies, including first aid and CPR when necessary
  • Assisting other officers, emergency responders, and law enforcement agencies
  • Participating in community events, public safety programs, and community-policing activities
  • Performing other law enforcement duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

Applicants should possess or be capable of developing:

  • Knowledge of criminal law, traffic law, search and seizure, arrest procedures, and rules of evidence
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in stressful and rapidly changing situations
  • Ability to communicate professionally with the public, coworkers, and other agencies
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and detailed written reports
  • Ability to safely operate a police vehicle during routine and emergency situations
  • Ability to safely and properly use law enforcement equipment and firearms
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and use de-escalation techniques when appropriate
  • Physical ability to perform the essential functions of a Police Officer
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong standards of integrity, professionalism, dependability, and accountability
  • Ability and willingness to work non-standard hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and other hours as required to meet the needs of the department

Work Schedule

Law enforcement is a 24-hour public safety service. Police Officers must be available to work non-standard and varying hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and during emergencies or special events as needed. Work schedules and assignments are based on the operational needs of the Piedmont Police Department.
