The Office of the City Engineer is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer II to join the Vertical Project Management Section. This position performs civil engineering work at the intermediate level under the supervision of a professional civil engineer. This position is responsible for the review of civil construction plans for compliance with city codes, ordinances and policies. An understanding and knowledge of civil engineering principles related to planning, managing, overseeing, coordinating, and implementing engineering/architectural design and construction projects is necessary. This position is also responsible for review and production of consistent design and construction budget and cost estimation documents.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping the City's built environment while contributing to projects that directly serve Phoenix employees, residents and visitors.

Minimum Qualifications
- One year of experience in the practice of civil engineering work.
- AND Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
- OR Two years of experience in civil engineering and a related engineering degree.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Two to four years of design or construction project management experience, serving in positions such as PM, or field engineer.
- Developing detailed project schedules and preparing cost proposals for both design and construction projects.
- Performing design drawing and specification reviews and carrying out project risk assessments.
- Contract negotiations.
- Planning, managing, overseeing, coordinating, and implementing engineering/architectural design and construction projects.
- Related Municipal Experience
- Databases and data entry is highly desirable.
- Civil Engineering design experience related to construction on municipal facilities.
