About This Position
The Parks and Recreation Department provides residents and visitors more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 trailheads and more than 200 miles of trails, and 182 city parks. Additionally, there are 32 community and recreation centers, classes and sports programs for all ages, 29 pools, eight golf courses, and a variety of specialty and cultural venues and facilities. The Parks Recreation Coordinator II plans, develops, implements, and evaluates recreation programs at park facilities, community centers for sports, art and culture, enrichment classes, school-based afterschool programs, and/or specialty programs.
This position is a part of the Adaptive Recreation team and is located at South Mountain Community Center which works to directly supervise and manage a variety of programming connected to the State of Arizona's Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) including a Day Treatment Program for adults. Responsibilities include assessing participants by evaluating all individuals through a variety of recreational assessment techniques, interacting directly with participants to identify a variety of interventions or strategies to achieve participant engagement and meet goals in program activities; and develop a recreation-based program that will include activities designed to engage and improve the participant's mind, body, and spirit. This position is required to obtain a State of Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card, Article 9 Certification, CPR/First Aid Certification.
Parks Recreation Coordinator II duties include Supervising full and part-time employees and volunteers. Communicating and cultivating connections and partnerships with individuals and groups to support department activities. Planning and coordinating special events. Maintaining financial and activity records for submittal. Administering department services including internet registration and reservations.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Pay Range: $58,593.60 - $90,916.80 annually.
Hiring Range: $58,593.60 - $86,590.40 annually.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Ability to ensure all activities and documentation meet DDD standards and regulations.
- Computer skills including MS Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.), email, web-based registration (ACTIVE software system) and computer-generated flyer design.
Pay Range: $58,593.60 - $90,916.80 annually.
Hiring Range: $58,593.60 - $86,590.40 annually.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in recreation, leisure studies, or a degree related to an area of specialization.
- One year of full-time, year-round professional or paraprofessional experience in recreation,
- OR One year experience equivalent to the level of Recreation Coordinator I.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must be fingerprint ed and will have their fingerprint s used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Any records returned will be reviewed to determine the candidate's suitability for the job.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

- Experience supervising staff and volunteers.
- Experience building a positive network within the community to promote programs.
- Experience planning and managing recreation programs.
- Experience working with the public and providing customer service.
- Experience in financial management and cash handling.
- One year of full-time professional experience working with adults with disabilities.
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
