The HVAC Systems Technician II Lead offers experienced HVAC/Mechanical Systems Technician the opportunity to join our team in performing skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems/components and other mechanical equipment, including automatic doors/gates, pumps, air compressors, and fire/life safety systems, in one or more public buildings. This position often works independently. Candidates must be self-motivated and able to work alone

The HVAC Systems Technician II Lead position within the Mechanical Systems team is an HVAC technician lead position and is responsible for issuing preventive maintenance work orders to the HVAC technicians, closing out work orders upon completion of the assigned work, creating a weekly work plan for the Mechanical Systems team, working closely with the Building Equipment Supervisors to ensure continuity of the work flow process, operate the building automation system (BAS), and troubleshooting and repair of HVAC and associated mechanical equipment.

This position may also be tasked with providing technical insight for upcoming projects and at times may oversee work being performed by outside contractors at the Convention Center and Venues.

BEOII team members are currently assigned 10-hour workdays and may include weekends, holidays and evenings shifts. Currently there are three different 4-10 shifts:

  • Sunday - Wednesday 2:30pm - 1:00am
  • Wednesday - Saturday 5:00am-3:30pm
  • Wednesday - Saturday 2:30pm-1:00am

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Ability to use a wide variety of tools and equipment including:
    • Mechanic tools.
    • Volt ohm meter (VOM).
    • HVAC troubleshooting and diagnosis tools.
    • Metal fabricating tools.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to operate equipment according to manuals, directions, specifications, or warning signals.
  • Ability to work in the field supervising and directing Building Equipment Operators I, Building Maintenance Workers, and other maintenance support employees according to general or specific instructions received from a Building Equipment Supervisor.

SALARY


Pay Range: $31.82 - $42.64 per hour.

Hiring Range: $31.82 - $40.61 per hour.

Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 251. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.

  • Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
  • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
  • When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of journey level experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of large, modern refrigeration and heating systems,
    • Supplemented by training in modern refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • Posses a Universal EPA certification.
  • Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience in overseeing service contractors and ensuring adherence to the contracts.
  • Experience in coordinating outside contractors for repairs or maintenance, and ordering parts to maintain and repair equipment.
  • Experience in oversight and monitoring progress of a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
  • Experience in a Guest Services environment providing services with direct customer contact.
  • Experience or training in the inspection, service and repair of Cooling towers, fan coils, dampers, centrifugal pumps, boilers, water pumps, blowers.
  • Experience or training in Computer use and operation relating to HVAC/Mechanical Systems equipment and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Experience in the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in air conditioning, heating, air handling operations, maintenance and repair work.
  • Experience in plumbing, electricity, mechanics, sheet metal work, and water analysis and treatment.
  • Experience in the use and care of manual tools and equipment necessary to perform various mechanical repair tasks.
  • Lead or Supervisory experience.
  • Experience in Commercial/Industrial HVAC and mechanical equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Experience in the installation, service and repair of electronic controls.
  • Experience working with automated preventative maintenance and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Experience in using computer systems (windows, excel, email, etc.)
  • Experience with MS Office applications (e.g., Word and Excel).
  • Experience with chiller maintenance and repair.
  • Experience with Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
