The purpose of this position is to perform paraprofessional accounting functions and apply basic principles of accounting to support the accounts payable section. This is accomplished by performing functions assigned involving financial record keeping and completing, processing, recording and analyzing financial transactions related to the area.

Key Responsibilities:
- Handles accounts payable tasks, including entering department information, updating reports, and keeping everything balanced.
- Prepares payments for services like electricity, pagers, and copy services. Runs and reconciles Open Purchase Order and Open Receiver reports.
- Processes invoices by matching them with packing slips, entering data into PeopleSoft, checking calculations, applying discounts, and handling vendor credits. Balances daily entries, processes weekly checks, and prepares them for mailing.
- Responds to and resolves complex or sensitive questions and concerns related to accounts payable.
- Performs general bookkeeping duties, prepares various reports, and maintains accurate records.
- Works closely with the Financial Systems Supervisor to assist with system testing when needed.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- High school plus additional course work (equivalent to up to 1 year at a Community College or equivalent resulting in accumulation of similar knowledge and abilities).
Experience:
- 1 year previous experience required in the same or similar previous positions.
- The job requires a good working knowledge of common and uncommon techniques, methods, practices, procedures, use of forms, routines, etc., of a moderate to complex nature.
Preferred/Desirable Qualifications:
- Intermediate reading skills
- Intermediate Math skills

- Skilled technical skills
