Recruitment Range: $42,265.60-$49,129.60 annually, depending on knowledge and experience.
***This position works outdoors the majority of the time, monitoring City of Pensacola parking lots, spaces, and meters.***
***Work hours for this position are Wednesday and Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. This position is off on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; 
  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
 Licenses or Certifications:
  • Possession of an appropriate driver’s license for equipment operated and any license, training or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks; or ability to obtain one within 30 days. 
  • Certified FDLE parking training completion or willingness and ability to obtain certification as a parking ambassador. Minimum of sixteen (16) hours in classroom training from a program approved by the City of Pensacola, followed by a minimum of eight (40) hours supervised field training. 
  • Must have at least two (2) years licensed driving experience. 
  • Must be willing and able to operate an assigned vehicle (including motor vehicles, golf cart etc.) as needed/requested by supervisor(s) in downtown traffic
  • Must have clean driving record within last 2 years. 
 Special Requirements:
  • No criminal record (other than minor traffic violation) 
  • Ability to provide/pass pre-employment background check, criminal background report, negative drug and tobacco test result and credit report when requested.
JOB SUMMARY
The Parking Ambassador patrols assigned area(s) by vehicle or on foot to ensure public compliance with parking ordinance(s) and issuing citations for overtime parking violators and illegally parked vehicles. Maintains communication with Parking Supervisor regarding conditions of parking areas and parking equipment. 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Enforces State and local Parking ordinances, policies, and procedures. 
  • Patrols an assigned route to ensure public compliance. 
  • Answers inquiries from the public concerning the city's parking regulations and directs citizens to the proper authorities for disposition of complaints or inquiries, if necessary. 
  • Issues citations for illegally parked vehicles; photographs the violation with provided equipment.
  • Observes and reports hazardous conditions such as missing parking/traffic signs, unknown construction areas, and street markings that may be faded or incorrect. 
  • Serves as an Ambassador for the City by providing information to the public regarding parking regulations, location of streets, buildings, and points of interest. 
  • Uses smartphone/other media device to issue citations and look up information. 
  • Maintains professionalism and customer service techniques to address customer concerns and inquiries. 
  • Reports, maintains, and repairs malfunctioning parking equipment and facilities when necessary. 
  • Testifies in violation appeal hearings. 
  • Hangs new signs, swaps out flags, and paints parking lines.
  • May be assigned to collect revenue from parking meters and pay stations. 
  • May be required to assist maintenance technicians. 
  • May be required to participate in data collection for operational surveys. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of the City’s ordinances and laws. 
  • Knowledge of the operations of parking facilities, parking policies, and best practices in parking and traffic control. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and the general public. 
  • Ability to work independently and remain motivated in order to complete tasks. 
  • Ability to attend work regularly as an essential function of this job to ensure continuity. 
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate well. 
  • Ability to recognize and accept the expectation of ethical and law-abiding behavior in both professional and personal life, as an example to the public you serve. 
  • Ability to use a smartphone and/or computer for computerized inquiries on vehicle registrations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy lifting, long period on your feet, and in all weather conditions. Routine lifting of moderately heavy items such as equipment, coin bags, records boxes, etc. (up to approximately 70 lbs.) Must be in good health with no history of back, neck, leg, or cardiovascular problems that would inhibit from walking a full shift. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT
Capable of working in extreme cold, heat, and high wind conditions for extended periods, may be required to walk for most of shift (excluding breaks).
