A Firefighter responds to fires, medical emergencies, and other emergency situations to administer life support care to sick and injured persons and to protect life and property.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Responds to calls for medical aid and traffic collisions to provide pre-hospital care. Other emergency responses include but are not limited to: vehicle fires, structure fires, commercial fires, brush fires, technical rescues and Haz-mat incidents.Provides fire safety education for public groups and conducts station tours.Assists in extricating trapped victims and transports sick and injured persons to treatment enter.Connects supply lines, and controls and extinguishes fires using hand lines, deck, ladders, and portable water monitors.Applies foam and chemicals for fire suppression and control.Searches buildings and rescues victims from buildings and motor vehicles using appropriate hand and power tools.Contains, controls, and mitigates hazardous materials spills. Supervisory Responsibilities: May supervise employees in the Fire Department when filling the duties of AOIC in accordance with applicable laws and policies. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning and directing work, providing feedback and addressing complaints and resolving problems.Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
