SUMMARY
Conducts code inspections including environmental housing and zoning to determine compliance with City and State codes and ordinances.
Works under the immediate direction of the Zoning Director but also under the general direction of the Commerce Director.
Flexible hours Monday through Sunday (35 hours per week) as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Conducts environmental, housing, and zoning code inspections to determine compliance with City and State codes and ordinances.
· Prepares written and digital inspection reports which document findings.
· Provide clear and consistent instructions on how to remedy violations.
· Have a complete understanding of all applicable environmental, housing and zoning codes and ordinances at the City and State level.
· Enter record information digitally as required.
· Attend and provide testimony at Municipal, District and Superior court when required.
· Perform related duties as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with at least two years’ worth of experience. Ability to communicate in Spanish or Portuguese is desired.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as city ordinances, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must complete the Basic Code Enforcement/Building Inspection course taught at either URI or CCRI within one year of hire date.
