Role and Responsibilities
Under direction, inspects new and existing buildings and structures to ensure compliance with the State Uniform Construction Code and enforces same to ensure public safety, health, and welfare; does related work as required. Under direction reviews plans and performs electrical inspection work to enforce the State Uniform Construction Code, the electrical sub code, and regulations adopted pursuant to the Uniform Construction Code Act; does other related work. Under direction performs plumbing inspection work involved to enforce relevant public health laws within the jurisdiction; does other related duties as required.
Examples of Work
· Examines plans for new structures to ensure compliance with building sub-codes.
· Inspects construction jobs, checks quality and amount of work completed, and resolves construction problems.
· Examines and approves plans and specifications for electrical work for compliance with the electrical sub code of the Uniform Construction Code.
· Inspects and evaluates electrical work in construction projects for conformance with requirements of approved plans, and the electrical sub code and regulations of the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.
· Conducts plumbing inspections to enforce relevant public health laws.
· Receives and examines plans for plumbing work.

Requirements-
License: Possession of a valid Building Inspector's License of the appropriate class issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. Possession of additional Construction Code Licenses a plus (Building Sub code preferred).
License: Applicants must possess a valid license as an Electrical Inspector of the appropriate level, High-rise and Hazardous (HHS) or Industrial and Commercial (ICS), issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.
License: Applicants must possess a valid license as a Plumbing inspector of the appropriate level, High-Rise and Hazardous (HHS) or Industrial and Commercial (ICS), issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.
Note: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Knowledge & Abilities
· Ability to carry out provisions of the State Uniform Construction Code as they relate to residential and small commercial structures.
· Ability to analyze and interpret provisions of the State Uniform Construction Code that apply to buildings and other laws, rules, regulations, and policies applicable to buildings.
· Knowledge of organization and content of the State Uniform Construction Code.\Knowledge of electrical service sizing and design.
· Knowledge of methods used to conduct plumbing inspection.
· Knowledge of plumbing fixtures and fixture requirements.
