The Role
As a Wastewater Lab Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the City's wastewater treatment plant laboratory meets local, State, and Federal permit and regulatory requirements through accurate testing, quality control, and process monitoring.
The ideal candidate for this role will have 2 years of laboratory or wastewater treatment plant experience, strong analytical and technical testing skills, and the ability to foster a culture based on integrity and respect. You will collaborate with the Environmental Compliance Manager and Public Works – Operations to perform laboratory analysis, maintain quality assurance and control standards, and help ensure accreditation and compliance for the treatment plant laboratory. A background check and drug screen are required upon acceptance of a conditional offer.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.):
- High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by one (1) year of college-level coursework in chemistry or another science-related field
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a related field (e.g., laboratory, wastewater plant operations, chemistry, biology, or related science field)
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification
- Washington State Group I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification
- Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
- Medical coverage is available at tiered monthly rates based on plan selection and coverage level. Dental coverage is available at $11.59/month and vision coverage at $6.54/month.
- Basic life insurance paid for by the City and employee sponsored supplemental life insurance
- 12 days of vacation during the 1st year of employment and 12 days of sick leave which are available for use upon accrual
- 10 holidays, plus 2 floating holidays
- Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS), which offers a guaranteed monthly benefit once vesting criteria has been met
- In addition to DRS, employees may also contribute to a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, that offers a pre-tax contribution of 4% from the City

- Primarily performed in the wastewater treatment plant laboratory; some work may be performed in the field
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pulling, and crouching for extended periods
- Exposure to physical hazards including confined spaces, wet/slippery surfaces, loud machinery, electrical systems, raw sewage, gases, fumes, and chemicals
- Work may be performed above or below ground level
- Post-offer, pre-employment medical exam and/or drug screen required
