Recreation Attendant II - Madison Jobe Senior Center

Duties: The Recreation Attendant II assists with the planning, implementation and supervision of recreational programs, activities and special events at Madison Jobe Senior Center and the Heritage Museum. The Recreation Attendant II will also be responsible for smaller departmental events including planning, implementing and evaluation such events. No direct employee supervision responsibilities. Greets incoming visitors/participants with a welcoming smile and a verbal hello. Provides hospitality, staff support and communication. Assists in planning, implementation, and supervision of programs by engaging seniors in recreational activities, including but not limited to board and table games, outdoor and indoor recreation, field trips and arts and crafts. Plans for and prepare refreshments at the center for daily activities, special events and programs. Plans for and prepare decorations for activities, programs, and special events. Coordinates with and receive direction from the Recreation Manager and/or Recreation Specialist to set up areas for activities and ensure areas are clean and safe for programs. Drives City vehicles to transport participants to and from events or for trips and tours. May coordinate and transport seniors to events and/ or escort seniors, utilizing East Harris County transportation, as directed by the Recreation Manager and/or Recreation Specialist. May attend East Harris County monthly meetings to obtain information about senior programs and to pick up information to bring back to distribute to seniors attending the center. Work closely with Recreation Manager and Recreation Specialist in coordinating and planning events for the Senior Center and the Museum throughout the year. Coordinate and assist the other Senior Center staff in signing up participants for and/or make telephone calls confirming participation in classes, programs and activities. Be knowledgeable of the purpose, mission, and goals of the Parks and Recreation Department in addition to the scope and scale of programs offered at their assigned park and across the city. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: High School diploma or GED. Valid Texas Driver's License with a good driving record. Must be able to drive city vehicles within three months of hire. Food Manager Certification within 6 months of hire. CPR/ First Aid within one year of hire. PREFERRED: Prior experience working directly with seniors is desirable. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is desired.
